The image in the mirror
Is one of skin and bones
A skeleton stares back
An image of death alone
What she sees in the mirror
Is ugly and fat
Her minds eye is lying
And it can’t look back
The torment of the mirror
Stays with her all day
As she starves this body
She thinks it’s the only way
To fight back at the mirror
And the story that it tells
She thinks she is in control
But her life has gone to hell
The image in the mirror
Differs from the truth so
And her soul is damaged
More than anyone knows

Great write. I find too that the mirror is such a simple thing, yet it helps to show so many things within ourselves. It can be our worst enemy and a wake up call.
Nice job, keep up the good work,

This really explains the effect some illness can have on you. In a world that solely works on how you look.Great write, and so real. Sue x |

A person is only seeing in their mind what they want to be. A mirror will not change up the facts. It must be right thinking... You can be 500 lbs and get down to 80 lbs, and it won't make one difference.... some where a long the line, something or someone has caused a problem.. counseling can help.. if you truly need to lose weight, that is one thing.. but to lose weight in order to be something you can never be, is a different story... hard to explain, I think with the few words I have written, many can understand.. what I do mean.

Shari, I found this incredibly sad. Sad, because this
is still such a huge problem today. Damn those beauty
magazines and (store-bought) flawless movie stars!
A most poignant and expertly written piece. Well done.

who's the idiot who decided blonde hair and anorexia is wats beautiful? give me a curvy brunette! models and movie stars are usually more disgusting than flawless, ribs showing and boney faces are not attractive; and anorexia is a sad disease that i think is derived entirely from this stupid idea of "beauty" |

Picture perfect, as presented visually in the storybook of television, movies, and advertising medias, is a fiction image of manufactured misguidance. Remember the image in the mirror cannot reflect the true beauty of the soul and mind.
Sad snapshot in this piece, but remember only a passing snapshot of an entire life.
