Lady by the Sea

Contributed by Gentlemanpoet on Thursday, 22nd June 2006 @ 01:07:36 PM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

In evening there along the beach in solitude I sit.
My eyes are fixed in westward view, the flaming sky is lit.
I rise to walk on waters edge, and there upon my feet.
The surf comes in to tickle me, like dancing to a beat.
As I walk along the shore, and hear the seagulls cry.
The loneliness I feel inside, my heart just wants to die.
I see a lonely lighthouse high upon the hill.
And there below the craggy rock, and crashing tides to fill.
I think about the lighthouse, how its light that shines so bright.
To help the ships there out to sea, and guide them through the night.
Farther I walk and there I see, sitting in the sand.
A most attractive lady, holding something in her hand.
As I pass and there I spy, twas a necklace she held there.
Tears streamed down her lovely face, I couldn't help but care.
She looked at me with tear filled eyes, I asked “are you okay”.
And there she told about her love, how he had gone away.
The necklace was the one he gave, she held it to her breast.
With trembling lips she dropped it there, their love had failed the test.
I asked if she would walk with me, for I too was alone.
We talked about the pain of love, for my love too had flown.
It seemed as if she was a dream, she slipped her hand in mine.
And there we walked along the beach, the stars began to shine.
I opened my eyes and there I was, it was a dream you see.
Oh where is my dream lady, please will you come to me.

Perhaps our dreams become elusive to us when first we such signpost, like the Lighthouse, begins to fade into minor significance. However, your rhyming flow is matched only by such beauty of thought; for indeed, you carry the reading into the eloquent longing...

Thank you Sir, for sharing.
