Please Leave

Please Leave

Faceless people come
and go, perpetuating my sometimes
daily mindless work routine but …

Your arrival anticipated the way
I am sure the masses dreaded
the coming plague

Here you are again,
like the nightmare where the raven
slowly gouges my eyes out,
you return to haunt me.

You will never leave!

I am a puppet smiling and nodding,
your chatter a knife
in my back I can’t quite reach

Why won’t you leave?

You’re still talking ??? droning on
like dads scratched country albums,
nasal yodelling about nothing.

Why won’t you leave?

Even when you’re quiet,
your maniacal stare penetrates my defences.
You’re smile
a hot iron in my stomach.

Please leave!!

Finally, I see your back,
tension releases its python hold
and slithers away with you.
Normal breath returns with my sanity

Way to go, Sean; you weren't too tough on that client as ya got yer frustrations of yer chest. Us cowboys would hip shoot bullets o' venemous words and prob'ly lose our job! Really enjoyed the way the poem flowed to "normal breath" returnin' with yer sanity.

I've met plenty of people like this... you just want to throttle them, don't you?!!! But instead you just nod, smile, and then go home and write a particularly good and rather scathing poem about them... I like your style...
