proud to be your daughter, daddy.

Topic: FathersDayPoems

The man i admire is laying under here...
a tear sheds down my face as i read
to myself here lies the body of..taking a deep
gulp while trying more competently not to
yell out "why him god, why him?" I try searching
for answers, but none are found.. All i can do is
look over at the casket and feel weakness.
As if nothing will ever be right again. How
could it be that such a marvelous man was
taken away so quickly? I dont know.
I remember you lying there, in the snow...
trying to gasp for air as i held your hand, crying, and barefooted.
Saying to myself please daddy, dont die, ill do anything!
gazing into the red lights of the ambulance
thinking.. ill never be the same again, my life, as i know it, is over.
a year gone by and i still remember that day
like it was yesterday, daddy. I still do.
Wondering now, as im sitting here..typing this,
why that very day, the day that help wasn't
able to get there soon enough, why was it
your day? Car rides just aren't the same
without you driving and rapping with me, daddy.
They're just not. Remembering all the times
we fought, i now know, that you were trying
to make me the person you knew i could be,
and im going to live up to that. I can surely say,
im proud to be your daughter, daddy.

This poem is heartbreaking and effectively conveys the aweful feelings experienced at losing someone so important in your life. I think writing about these feelings is a lovely tribute to your father and helpful for the writer to get these feelings out and on paper.
