Vision - on Corpus Christi Day

I had a vision in a quiet night
That overwhelmed me by its awesome might;
It was in June, on Corpus Christi Day
When all the world in bloom and sunshine lay.
Altar boys’ bells now from a distance rang
While little girls in white dresses sang;
I watched the pageantry from my alcove
This passing of the Sacrament of Love.
Sweet was the childrens’ song as they marched on;
But our blessed Lord- - he walked alone;
No paten, chalice, host, - He had dispensed
With sacred vessels and with priestly hands.
No gold monstrance nor shielding panoply,
No honor guards to escort the pageantry;
Yet the procession wound its usual way
As every year on Corpus Christi Day.
In full manhood’s shape I saw His form of light
My eyes and spirit feasted on His sight.
How could such wondreous grace be granted me?
Love without end in beauteous majesty.
Spellbound, enraptured on the ground I knelt
While Summum Bonum in its glory I beheld;
Whose radiance beyond compare set me aglow;
And heaven’s glory here with us below
Rose petals flew, - he turned to look at me-
Grace without measure! love! Benignity!
He passed on, but once more He slowly turned
To meet my eyes, and all my being burned.
But how could words describe, impart, or teach
In feeble utterances, - human speech
Express what felt my soul, my flesh and bone.
Oh blissful light! - I woke - the vision was gone.
Above is the English translation of my mother's original German version as shown below.
Traumbild
In feierlichem Zuge an mir vorueber schon.
In voller Mannesgroesse, frei ging die Lichtgestalt;
Ergriffen trank mein Auge so grosse Seligkeit

The proper rhyme In between "night" and "might" in the first two lines was too direct, as it was between the following "sang" and "rang" in the first two lines of S2. The stress falling on the final word in a sequence is not necessary to achieve a flow of sonics, and the arrangement of words to achieve alliteration (displayed in "boys' bells") is also unnessary.Witness:
The bang of the alter boys' bells rang
from a distance; little girls in white dresses
sang as I watched the pageantry from the alcove, the sacrement of love passing.
I have included an echoic word in the sequenceto strengthen the alliteration, and manipulated the order of words
for purposes of sonics. The context of the dialogue has not been altered or abstracted in any way, and by eliminating functionless syllables The stanza "reads" a lot better.
I will continue critiquing this further at a later date.
you're welcome,
black.

Sorry, When I viewed my previous comment The stanza did not appear as I intended:
The bangs of the altar boy's bells rang
at distance; little girls in white dresses
sang as watched the pageantry from my alcove, the sacrement of love passing.
I apologise also for the punctual errors. It is late, and I am tired.
you're welcome,
black. |

What He did was not easy, He pleased His Father, and I am very thankful He walked alone, He is worthy, and what He did was worth it.. for His Father, Him, and us....La paix soit avec toi, etreintes…

You are your Mothers daughter - in more ways than the physical; and for that,- we all profit when we read your poems. Thanks to God for his gifts. |
