She gently touched his cheek
And wiped away his tear
He tenderly stroked her forehead
And washed away her fear
Each day began with their game
A lively challenge of wit
Each night ended in loving arms
Knowing their devotion would never quit
She was always strong and steadfast
He relied upon her for that
And in return his love
Was one that would always last
She was a devoted wife
And a wonderful mother
His love for her was boundless
Like no other
With heavy sadness in her heart
She bade farewell to her love
Knowing that sometime in the 'morrow
She would fly to him like a dove

Our departed loved ones are always with us. That is the way I understand this beautiful poem.
The premonition of having to take leave is always the hardest..
Thanks for sharing this touching work with us.
Love and peace
