no sense of balance as we fly
upside down in the clouds
crossing our hearts
my mouth has gone dry
anticipation bangs against my chest
can you feel it too
your hand clutching mine
we rise above the steamy lake
where big brown trout hide
and summer seemed endless in our youth
but we know better now
than to be complacent
when time taps his toe impatiently
we scatter to the four corners
too busy to return his call
moving in gentle rhythm we flow
down to the sea to be swallowed
in great salty gulps
caught up in the gulf stream
we wash up on familiar shores
back where we came from
by candlelight we walked these halls
and suffered much for everything
until our heads we could not keep
and yet our hearts forever be entwined
