Oh dearest great Saint Anthony
Today we celebrate
Your lovely feast and joyously
Consume your blessed bread.
Oh humble saint, so popular,
Most famed and most renowned,
Great wonder worker, shining star
Through whom lost things are found.
Saint Anthony of Padua
The pilgrim’s train is long
Before the famed Basilica
That holds your golden tongue.
Miracle worker glorious,
To you the pilgrims turn,
Afflicted people in distress
Whose hearts for healing yearn.
Worker of countless prodigies,
Hot penitential tears
Caused by your stirring homilies
Moved infidels and peers.
Oh helper in necessities
When matters go awry,
Enlighten mankind's vagaries
That often fly too high.
I often prayed before your shrine,
The shrine that holds you tongue
In silernce by some candle’s shine
And my soul broke out in song.
So proud are the Italians
Of their Saint Anthony,
But he has also foreign fans
And screwballs too like me.
Oh champion of humility,
Despairing folks with fervency
Implore you: “Help Saint Anthony"
When lost is wallet, cards and key!”
And this kind saint stoops graciously
Lost items to restore,
Lost wallets, key rings, cards and key,-
To the proprietor.
And when we leave this earthly shore
We beg you to be guide,
To by your merits find the door
To the eternal light.
