It was under, the moonlit sky,
that he picked her up, and held her high.
You could not tell, unless close by,
he was the one, that had made her cry.
He said he was leaving, going away,
she cried and cried and begged him to stay.
He said he'd been told to go somewhere new,
to fight in a war, about which no~one new.
He said he'd be back, and she musn't cry,
she was to stay strong, and he wouldnt die.
They spoke of the baby, she carried inside,
her pain and her anguish, she had to hide.
He set off at dawn, all loaded down,
she waved him off, in her old dressing gown.
He got took in a car, to join the other marines,
she smiled at him, through tears that gleamed.
She reveived a letter, after over a year,
of how he had died, by an enemies spear.
He had cried in the camp, and on the battleground too,
he had cried for the baby, that he never knew.
Though time has past, the baby's now four,
she remembers clearly, seeing him off at the door.
The husband she loved, she'd never see again,
the Dad who would never, see his son Dwayne!
