Rain falling off the roof
She watches from the porch swing
Gently rocking to and fro
As to her child she sings
Through the storm she waits
For her husbands footfall
Lovingly she smiles
As she hears his call
Moments draw longer
With each step he takes
As he moves forward
Muddy footprints in his wake
Laughter fills the woods
As child sees his Dad
Bringing him a teddy bear
Making his heart glad
A homecoming of sorts
Joyous in its gentle touch
For too long separated
Now just loving much

Such a wonderful and sweet feeling in this poem. I experience what you describe here every day; reading this reminds me how blessed I am. Lovely write!

I could really see the story unfolding, it's a simple piece, but very effective, really nice write! Lovely!
