Hiding deep in a crevice on the side of a mountain
Lies a poor man's soul
Three billion years ago he took a little stroll
When an earthquake struck the mountain,
His life was lost
No stories to tell, no memories to live on
Just the earth's cooling lava to preserve his bones
The bag he carried could tell such wonders today
For it contained pictures carved out of tiny blocks of stone
But that is lost for it never survived the the beatings of time
Clutched inside his bony grasp lies a diamond
Such beauty lieing there with a mess of bones
We can only wonder this man's thoughts so long ago
We poke and we prod disrupting his sleep
Hoping to find some presence of us in this man
Never again will he have his silence
From the moment he took the first step of his stroll,
His life became ours
Three billion years later we found him lying there
Our need to know defying his right to die
We speculate and rumor
And all at once, we think we have him figured out
Some complicated story plays out his last days
No one could ever believe he was just a simple man
So we give him a name and life we all believe
For what we do not understand, we fear
Is it really so important to know who he was?
Three billion years ago this man lost his life
Three billion years later we put his life on display

Hey woman, great poem.. hehe I know the man you speak of.. and your words really discribed him in a sense that no one really does know who he was, or still is.
Keep writing your ever so wonderful poems, I'll be sure to read them. :) |

Wow Lia where did this come from - I was only thinking of something similar today - it was recalling the recovery of ancient childrens bodies in the Andes sacrificed by the Incas a few thousand years ago (don't ask how my silly head got onto the subject) - you have captured all I was trying to fathom - what a great piece - an excellent surprise.
