Blackbird

The powder snow falls
Lightly dusting the ground
A black feathered bird
Swoops down without a sound
The blackbird is dying
The snow quickens it's descent
It lays in the snow
It's left wing is bent
A young girl spies
Its dark feathers
The feathers stood out
Made clearer by the weather
The little girl runs over
And picks it up in her small hands
She kisses the blackbird on the head
And says a little prayer
Then the bird is suddenly well
And very far from dead
The little girl smiles
And lets it fly away
The blackbird's wing is mended
Nothing stands in her way
