Hoping for the Best

Romantically stranded on the top floor
Screaming from the penthouse rooftop
Rusted voice of disillusion
I spend way too much time here
Breathing on polluted dreams
Eating scraps from the floor
Hell has no scorn
Hot licks of laughter
Bite at my ragged pride
Caught in the mirror
Too many bright lights
Hard to disguise what’s happened here
Desperately seeking something
Or maybe just desperate
Fogging up the windows
Or is overcast again
Suspecting the sun will recover nicely
With or without me
Seeking haven in the elevator
Up and down
What day is it and how do I know for sure
There are no second chances
It’s a one shot deal
Take it or leave it
Paralyzed by indecision
Push all the buttons at once
Hoping for the best
