I stand alone on winter's greedy length,
Want's thirsty speed curling at my door,
I tread his hollow footsteps,
While ice winds sleet my soul.
Despair in its wanton wrath sink cruel frissons into me,
But I circle life, at the edge of his perfect nest.
He turns to my footfall, looking my ethereal way,
Awake to my silent calls in his warm menage,
Spent by far-away memories burning distant fires.
A time when I was real,
As real as his tender new love...
