Jumping into the Abyss

|
standing on the edge of a cliff,
my heart beats uncontrollably,
beads of sweat roll from my brow,
glancing my fingertips,
dropping down to the abyss below,
through scorching sands,
fruitful trees,
deadly torrents
staring at the glaring sun,
blindness sets in,
tremors through my bones,
my skin tightens as the hairs stand up,
my mind swirls in a barrage of thoughts
thoughts of deceit,
anger, depression, contempt,
my body stays still as my mind runs a marathon.
looking around me,
no one is there,
only rocks....rocks that have lasted the tests of time
looking deep within i see .... nothing
no passion,
no determination,
only guilt....hate
not of another
but of oneself
blame for a life unfufilled,
until now......
i look at the gaping abyss once again,
inviting me to discard the thread of life.....
i close my eyes....slowly....my body drifts...
forwards and downwards,
a gush of wind streams through my hair,
opening my eyes i tremble with anticipation,
the land grows nearer, faster and faster i fall
until.....
i recoil,
the elastic rope holding me in place pulls me back from my dismay,
i stared at the beggining and at the end,
i stared deep within,
fearless, renewed...
nay!!....

| I read this because the title is similar to my poem "Staring into the Abyss" Your poem is good and in a lot of ways describes the depression that my poem speaks about. I especially like the first stanza. |
