Young, Dumb and In Love

Contributed by spike on Friday, 2nd June 2006 @ 09:41:50 PM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

You got under my guard,
At I a time I let no-one in
One night of revelry,
And I woke with you next to me
An angel snoring soft and shallow
Tresses cast across my pillow
Like a drunk admiring a fresh tattoo,
I fell in love with you.

But sober, things were not so clear,
Hearts committed, just like sin
You left in an awkward rush,
Yet at the door, a furtive kiss
Leaving me with my coffee spilt
Your perfume lingering like guilt
But what’s a dumb boy to do,
I’m in love with you.

Restless nights and vivid dreams,
Ear tuned for that front door rap
Yet also dreading that so long call,
So high the high, so far the fall
I know your heart’s torn
But I’m the one who’s lovelorn
Aching and uncertain too,
But I’m in love with you.

Ya have that gift o' paintin' heartstring strung pictures with emotive words of vividness 'n' puttin' all us readers back to a place most all of us have been; ya dang well made lovelorn beautiful. It was a heck of a lot more fun to let you take me there than it was when I was there - young, dumb and in love. With each line I kept lookin' forward to the next! Tip o' the hat, Arch.

Excuse me, Spike, I had Archie on my mind 'cause I just read and commented on his latest post and ponderin' the things he said in that post. It was strong on my mind when I was makin' my comment on this. This was a masterful write, SPIKE!

Spike-

A heart stirring piece to be sure. But there is something else suspended here . . . dare I
say an anxiety?? lol Oh god, how I loathe this feeling and love it all at once!! You captured
the emotion to perfection. Honestly, my heart almost stings from lingering remembrance
upon reading this. Excellent, as always Spike.

Aching . . .yes, indeed. The ache of want and yearning. How we do love to torture
ourselves. But when the outcome is a lasting and beautiful coupling, it makes all
the anxiety and torture worth it, no?

Love the post, dear Spike.

You mave have dug deep Spike but the memory is vivid. The confusion and uncertainty that love yields, is a wonderful thing, when you're young, dumb and in love.Well, when we look back it is,maybe not so obviously wonderful at the time. This was just about perfect.
