five bales

Contributed by vitamin_joe on Thursday, 1st June 2006 @ 07:56:47 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

this one's
about a film

there were five hay bales,
in a movie
I once saw

one hay bale
was on fire
was it a horror movie?
no
was it a romance?
no
was it a comedy?
no
it was none of these
it was a burning hay extravaganza
a thriller, even

the bale burned
like hell fire
I was on the edge
of my seat
would the other bales
have the same fate?

the first bale
was black and charred
but still burning
how exciting!

the wind blew a gust
of cinders
over the second bale
"where was the farmer?"
I screamed
as the second bale
began to smoke
and catch
I couldn't watch,
couldn't take much more
only five minutes
from the credits
and four bales
from none

now there were three bales
and two
smoking piles
what a movie!
I started to cry
as the third bale
combusted in a flash
faster than a tornado
who can save the bales?
oh who?

the next bale resisted
for a while beside
it's neighbours
and then
they sputtered out!
oh relief!

but what was this?
a small piece glass
shining in the sun
caused the bale to ignite
and disappear in flames
faster than a man could believe

the last bale
was slightly damp
by now, I was exhausted
with emotion
then the cinema screen
began to smoulder
"what amazing effects" I thought
and the smell of burning plastic
how realistic!

I could not understand my
fellow cinema goers
stampeding to the exits
"it's only a film!"
I cried
"the bale
isn't really burning!"

but it was
the final bale was blazing
and I looked down
at my shoes
and they too were on fire
what an incredible film!
I could really feel
the heat
