Remember your Childhood

Contributed by AMSCPC464 on Thursday, 1st June 2006 @ 01:09:02 PM in AEST
Topic: Nostalgic

Remember your childhood, the things you liked most,
Jack Frost on a morning, and spreading Jam on your Toast.

The footballing stickers, the 20 pence mix,
Collecting your comics for your cartoon fix.

The Topper and Beano, the Whizzer and Dandy,
Keeping the old stuff that you thought was handy.

In summer you'd lie there, too hot to run round,
In autumn you'd wrap up and kick leaves on the ground.

In spring you'd be happy and do things real slow,
Then winter arrived and you'd play in the snow.

Wrapping up tightly with your gloves hat and scarf,
Throwing the snowballs at your mates for a laugh.

Big soldiers, Little Soldiers airfix models too,
Making a mess with the paint and getting stuck with the glue.

Your friends and your mates, that you happened to have,
Meant more to you then than your mum and your dad.

What about kerbie and greatie, they were played with such joy,
Never mattered if you were a girl or a boy.

And football in the street, the road was the host,
Using your jumpers and coats as a post.

Kiss catching the Girls, Hide and Seek and then Tag
Making a kite from sticks and a bag.

Staying out late, untill it got dark,
swirling roud on the roundabout in the local park.

In the shop there were sweeties, too many to pick,
Bubblies and chocolate bars and lollies to lick.

SO much to remember, too much to forget,
Never showing remorse or ever showing regret.

To me this was childhood; I look back with great glee,
Of how I enjoyed it.....My good friends and me.

Love this poem, it is pure nostalgia, and takes me back to my childhood. I have a poem entitled sweet things, remembering the old fashioned sweets. Here is a little bit of it...

The sweets of yesterday were fab,
Do you remember toffee slabs,
Fruit salad, black jacks, Walnut whips,.
Five boys chocolate,and cherry lips,

Never want to forget those days. Happy poem, so good. Sue x

Thank you for sharing these memories and for making so many of mine resurface. I've had a happy childhood and when I compare it to those of the kids I see today, well, I honestly feel sorry for them...
