a coastal town

As the last traces of Sunday, with indifference, slinks
into night, Monday's dawn is ready to bloom. Fishing
boats are tiny stars on black undulating velvet and
drunks huddle together under railway bridges;
their hearts are fluttering sparrows of sorrow, for
them dawn brings no new promise. At a dry cleaner's
a row of suits and dresses await their fate, suspended
spooks, except for a cheeky red number that sensuously
moves and remembers. In a side street, near the docks,
a blind woman plays her cymbals; its fragile din is only
heard by the ocean which surges and washes away
footprints in the sand. Monday's rose is opening; cars
begin to fill roads, Fishermen are returning and from
Daisies tea salon, the tinkling sound of silver spoons.

Wonderful imagery. I long for the simplistic setting described in this poem. The town seems like a loving place.

You did very well laying out the goings on of the town with your description. Nice work!

Wow. I live in a coastal town. Excellent description that is accurate as far as my town goes.

Having lived on the shores of The Gulf Of Mexico, and on the shores of Lake Erie, as well as the Chesapeake Bay, I say this poem was right on target and brought back memories of all 3 places. Bravo!
Love,
Robert Edgar Burns
