It lay on the rocks in the mouth of the bay,
Almost as if it had something to say,
Its rotten black deck, its sails torn and Tattered,
Its mast broke in half and it's hull smashed and shattered.
What did this thing look like, this ship from the docks,
Hard to imagine, now it's smashed on the rocks.
Where did it come from, what goods did it bring,
Maybe a Treasure ship bringing gold for the King.
Maybe a Pirate-ship, sleek, dark and fast,
Flying the crossbones, high on its mast.
Maybe a Trade-ship carrying spices and Tweed,
Now looking broken on the rocks and seaweed.
I dare to imagine what this ship, would say,
As it lay on the rocks in the mouth of the bay.
Whatever it is, I don't think it matters,
That smashed up old ship, on the rocks and in tatters.
