It’s never been easy, living up to this
The grades, the books: A parent’s bliss
A chat with friends, a messy room
Breaking down one Sunday afternoon
Sharpened pencils, dark blue ink
A special place to sit and think
No doubts allowed, no ‘I can’ts’
Because this it is, your one last chance
And if it fails and you do too
I swear to God you’ll regret it soon
Hopes dashed, no UK
And I don’t have that kind of money, okay?
So you do well and study hard
We await the card
And now with shaking hands he holds
The soggy envelope my future foretold
And as the rain poured down outside he sighed
And I died just a little bit inside

I'm sorry. That sounds like it was a really hard thing you had to deal with. You have to fail to suceed though. Remember that. As that door closed another one just opened. :)
