The clock on the line, ticks,
the child looks only for things to do,
where do we belong, the older ones,
our worries, our sorrows, our dreams have drifted,
do we belong to the clock with time,
as the child only see's the shadow of a new day,
can we then, be just as they, small and innocent,
no worries, just music and love,
he drew me a picture today,
it's taken me thirteen years,
to teach him to hold his hand steady,
and he's drawing, while I cry, with such joy,
I knew he had so much more,
my little boy,
and he smiled,
it read, "to my mom, my magnet",
I guess we'll always be glued together,
he's never far from my reach,
the clock on the line ticks for him,
but in another way,
he's a joy, and his hands are magic,
they can draw, both of them,
those little fingers are moving,
and he's holding them steady,
making pictures, sent to mom with love,
I think he may be a future artist,
thats what I told him,
if you could only see his smile,
he was shining, jumping,
I was given the best gift today,
his picture, signed with his name,
because he accomplished,
one of the gifts,
we take for granted,
the clock on the line ticks for him,
and I cry for joy!

Dear Valerie ... I cried when I read this ... to take thirteen years, oh my ... :((( my thoughts went immediately to my son who has had some problems lately, and one of the things I absolutely treasure are his pictures and words he writes to me ... I've always thought that if ever anything happened, I would always have those beautiful pictures and sweet things he has written, so I keep every one. It must be a huge leap forward for your son to be able to express himself in this way - and for you to be able to see it happen. I'm so happy for you both. ... Jan |

Valerie, I have had the extreme joy of caring for a number of Downs Syndrome children over the years. Their handicap was my strength because the taught me to love as only they could...Unconditionally. I see you have experienced that great gift from God as well in your writings. I once wrote a song titled "GODS SPECIAL CHILDREN" dedicated to these children who are really only handicapped by the ignorance of others. Love your writing style. Sorry I don't comment more. I have been hospitalized numerous times this past year with a bad heart . But I still read!
Love,
