Damned if you do

Afore there lived a godless king oblivious to sin
But being bored and malcontent with facile life
He wanted happiness and purpose for his kin
For they were all he had without his departed wife
He found four wisemen to instruct them for the nonce
They had agreed to discipline them in their ways
But when he asked about his daughters and his sons
Here, is what each sagacious scholar had to say:
"She has been slain by your relentless, prideful son
For he determined that her faith had been misplaced
Though you may grieve that gentle Genevieve has gone
Remember, she's with God and it was not a waste"
"Your virtuous son was killed in duty for the Lord
Although you may lament the death of valiant Devan
He underwent the Holy mission of his own accord
And thus, absolved, he should be on his way to Heaven"
"The brazen folly of her sibling lead to her demise
You mustn't mourn your sweet and innocent Savanna
She studied arduously and became devout and wise
Therefore I know that she will surely reach Nirvana"
"Misguided is your sorrow for the tragic fate of Chad
Dispite his suicide, there is no reason to be grim
Without compunction, i assure you - he was glad
For in that selfless act, the heathens burned with him"
"Now there is no one left to claim the royal epithet"
"My lineage is gone," exclaimed the king, distraught
"Yet even still you really have no reason to regret"
Rebuked the mocking wisemen, "you distress for naught"
"They may be dead while you don't have an heir
None of this matters, for there's no one to offend
Just close your eyes - soon you won't even care
For as you say there's only darkness at the end"

This is one of the best poem I have read in YPDC. So intense and penetrating, and the words flow smoothly as a mountain stream. Wonderful my friend; this is A very good poem I must say.
