Empty Houses, Filled With Pain

Eventually,
You can’t resist the temptation
To turn the mirrors around
(to avoid seeing yourself
fall apart, again and again).
Eventually,
You give up on the slicing
And dicing of niceties
(for having realized the holes
in them never really go away).
Eventually…
Time, a precious grain of sand,
Slips, inconsiderately, away
Through helpless hands.
Eventually…
The reality of pain comes home
Pouncing, unexpectedly, on you
Whenever you’re alone.
Until eventually -
Becomes a word you
No longer wish to hear.
~
But, eventually…
You learn to live with pain
And
You use that word again…...
Eventually.

I can relate to this poem very well and the word that comes to mind is hope. I hope I can keep hold of it as well as everyone. |

Very well done, my friend. There's a lot of facing-up to the sadness which is part of life (half of life maybe I should say), but in a responsive, intelligent way. Thus there's a lot of depth, melding nicely with the strenth of the (quite polished) form.
Well done.

Wow, Snem. I liked the repitition of ..."eventually"..made it hit harder. The last stanza, oh gosh...so painfully true. Thank you for sharing such an excellent write,

Snemmy, thank you very much. I've already explained how deeply this touched me. You are a wonderfully sweet & compassionate sweetheart.
This is quite possibly my favorite poem of the year...maybe even a lifetime. I will never forget it and nor forget how thoughtful you are.
And yes, it is an awesome poem. Your awesome way of taking those "fateful" words that wait for us and arranging them upon a page will never cease to amaze me.
Love,
Timber

Very well portrayed. At least with pain we are not empty. Yet being empty can be very painful, I guess. I remember one time when I felt so much pain that I couldn't bear to look at the family pictures on the wall. So I turned them around...being seperated and alone in the house hurt too much.
Yes, an "Empty House, Filled With Pain"
Thanks for sharing Snemmy

Both the beauty and agony of words is that they can transfer the indigents of the author's feelings to the audience. Sometimes it is through skill and others it is through the rawness of the emotions present. Mayhaps I too am in sombre moods nowadays but I find a certain beauty to this write. I can feel both the heartwrenching reality of the pain portrayed and yet also the calm acceptance that follows..."Eventually". It is unfortunate that such sadness is needed for a write of such depth but I do honestly feel that this is both a genuine expression as well as a skillfull rendition. I wish you hope, luck and better days beyond this pain while I do applaud your exquisite write that this is, at least to my heart, mind and eyes.
"...pain is the benchmark of life...for its existance confirms our lives...while its acceptance shapes our humanity...one never truly understands...until he or she finds the pain that eventually is..." |

There are some fine lines here. The most notable I feel is "until eventually becomes a word you no longer wish to hear"-that's poetry.
The theme is sad and universal-the factual sadness of inevitability, it is something accessible to everybody, and indeed, everyone who reads this will no doubt conjure an unique explication tailored to their circumstance.
painful and articulate,
you're welcome

This is a somber and beautifully written poem. The emotions expressed here effectively confront the intense emotional pain involved in facing deep sorrow. The repetition of the word "eventually" is lovely here, because it gives the piece a feeling of hope, through perseverance.

Poems such as this which is so very strong and inside alot of us but some know it by face not just a shadow, are comforting and by just sharing you have given an amazing feeling of relation to so many. Thank you for sharing, it's a masterpiece in everyway. I hope you have come to acceptance of sorts for whatever brought this on.

I just wanted to tell you that I have learned to live with the pain. Not that it doesn't still hurt, but I am dealing with it much better.
Forever grateful,
