Kids Who are Different

Contributed by jay89 on Sunday, 21st May 2006 @ 08:58:08 PM in AEST
Topic: FriendshipPoetry

Here's to kids who are different,
Kids who don't always get A's,
Kids who have ears
Twice the size of their peers,
And noses that go on for days.

Here's to the kids who are different,
Kids they call crazy or dumb,
Kids who just don't fit,
With the guts and the grit,
Who dance to a different drum.

Here's to the kids who are different,
Kids with a mischievious streak.
For when they have grown,
As history has shown,
It's their difference that makes them unique.

This write is as special as those children.
Thank you for sharing this.
You may like to read my poem, entitled, "Different, But Equal"

Right on, JJ! Ya got it. It truly is a fact that many performers, actors, writers, and communicators have such a childhood of "being different". Good write. One of yer best.

Very good. I think the different kids can relate to this poem. I enjoyed it.

great poem jay. Well written, even sentiment, not bitter or too sachharine sweet. celebrate the difference, don't can it (so long as people aren't hurt by it).

Still, I have to disagree with the 'everybody's special' sentiment. Remember, in the Incredibles when Mom says to Dash that everybody is special, and he says, 'That's just another way of saying no one is special'. Still, I hear what you're saying, and I add my voice to the message.

I read your poem and had to sign on and comment . I could not agree more, I love the message your sending to readers. Not everyone is a honor student and not every one looks like a barbie doll. Children should be encouraged to try their hardest , never give up, and love themselves and their unique qualities. If we all shared your view , how wonderful things could be,

Hugs ,

LG
