I met her at the park one day,
by happenstance I think.
Standing by the fountain there,
just waiting for a drink.
As I finish with my sip,
I turned to walk away.
There she was in front of me,
I couldn’t help but say.
Something like “hello” I said,
and then to my surprise.
She started conversation there,
admiring her mystical eyes.
It seemed like just a moment,
but we had talked all day.
She said that she would have to go,
I wanted her to stay.
I asked if I could call on her,
and she replied, “okay”.
We set a date for dinner,
just two days away.
She put her hand to my face,
her hands were cold as ice.
She smiled at me and then she left,
I thought 'she sure was nice.
Our dinner date had finally come,
I stood now at her door.
I rang her bell and waited there,
hearing footsteps on the floor.
A lady came to the door,
I asked if Marie was there.
She looked at me with saddened eyes,
no words but just a stare.
Then she cleared her throat,
spoke and almost cried.
One year ago today,
my daughter Marie she died.
I was with her two days ago,
it must be a mistake.
She then showed me her picture,
I hoped that I would wake.
It seemed like a nightmare,
I’ll never understand.
Thinking back to that day,
and the touch of her cold hand.
What happened there seems so unreal,
and now it seems so dark.
How could all that happen,
for just a walk in the park.

Whoa, fantastically haunting. The poem flows like a fountain, with perfect rythm, building dramatically until the bewitching end. Good write!

I didn't want to read this because it was too long but then I started and was immediatly in the story. The whole thing is wonderful. I'm glad I decided to read it. |
