Different Points of View

*****, the moon over the water is bright,
Though carefully sliced by our shadow
Heeding sentiments of privacy,
Curved to invite flattery,
The birds, gulls by their shape,
Ignore the their source of light and
Stare down from predetermined heights
As we gape towards the beacon above,
(Grope might make for more fitting terms)
Merely different points of view.
Why can I not simply accept its presence
And carry on, instead I am forced to stare
As if something was amiss, almost hoping
For a change in course or
Alteration of its innocence.
Maybe the birds have it right;
Recognize, utilize, but never analyze.
Merely different points of view.
But wait, no, that simply can’t be right
I was never meant for flight
I was meant to stare and wonder
As they were meant for air and plunder.
Strange, the solitary cloud blackens our view
With dense undulations
Masquerading as solids
Though we both know
Its true permissiveness.
But we both know that our
Self-proclaimed knowledge
Has escaped us. The gulls stay
Uniform, unchanged, unaltered, the new
Dark fits their course, as expected. I too
Am content, as far as I am concerned
The moon does not exist behind the clouds.
I have something new to capture my attention.
Merely different points of view.
As I think back now, I had betrayed my surroundings,
I might have seen its reflection in the water
But who am I to question
What is behind
What is in front?
I should have seen it in the water.

Wow. The imagery and lyricism totally floored me - it's like reading a Robert Frost poem. Very interesting subject matter too, I'd like to know where the balance is between what we should know, what we do know, and what we try so hard to discover in our lives. Excellent, brilliantly executed piece.

This poem is Delicious! (sorry I'm suffering from lack of sleep so that was the only word I could think of) But seriously it is really amazing. |
