Finding Poe

Contributed by Man_On_High on Wednesday, 17th May 2006 @ 11:21:05 PM in AEST
Topic: obsession

You were dead long before I stumbled
upon the life that was in your poetry..
upending generations to come,
offering needful miracles
to the ones who came
limping or thundering after;

dead, but you would not lie safely down
and only in a dozen or so years
did I see your face
born out of human context,
alien to any other medium..
a vast barren moore,
creviced with living thoughts
and tangled latitudes of honest pain..
blest with healing power, lying always
down, your unambiguous suffering.

Speaking your verse in a dark impassioned voice-
always having wanted to close the door and be gone
to where you might, at last capture peace..
drink unending amber and converse with friends
till all the sacred cows came home-

at least the ones you had not so ungainly slaughtered
on that mazed journey into truth

I yet know only half of your mind,
half of the world you made so uniquley your own
and the other half beckons like some unexplored country
wherein I shall falter early, often and late,
becoming confused and at times befuddled
by so many trials..
lured by signs that lead apparently nowhere-

save that nowhere you inhabited teemed with such life
so as to leave me panting and many times lost
in my belated crusade to find you

Brilliant dedication to an awesome poet! I think Edgar would have blushed at reading this. You have honored him and his achievements here in terms he would recognize and appreciate. I love the line: "dead, but you would not lie safely down." Totally Poesque! He has always been one of my favorites! Thank you for honoring him in this way. *****

Unbelievable Billy! Poe would be astonished and quite flattered, I'm
thinking to read this. [It would have most assuredly graced the
pages of the Messenger wherein POE would have given it a
glowing review -- no doubt!]

I don't know what the heck Bloom was talking about or where he
obtained his narrow opinion, (and I'm being kind), but let's just agree
that he obviously does not always recognize greatness when he sees it.

Let's also agree that this is a tender and most genuine ode to a great
master of words and poetry. Excellent work, Billy. I could NOT have done
him greater justice. [nor would I try, after this masterpiece. : ) ]
