My List of Things to Do Today
Thank you for breaking my arm, Trevor,
For without your gift I would have nothing to start this list,
In fact you have two slots on my list,
First I have to buy a crowbar,
Well at least you apologized to my mother,
How else would you show you 'love' her?
No such niceties came my way
Did they?
No that’s right only through my mother,
Moving on however,
There are more important matters at hand,
That would be you dad,
The family from which I am banned,
Thanks Em, for giving me my brother,
You can ***** off now,
I don’t want another
But that’s just it, you see
You don’t really ‘love me’
You’re just in it for the money
And then you will gently suggest,
Leaving England, and leaving me
Leaving England along with my family
And that leaves me with you mother,
For such a poem, full of spite,
I should end with my light, so greater than bright,
Blinding in fact, the resilience you show,
I need you mother, please do not go
All pain I have caused you,
You have swept aside,
But remain still a lonely bride,
To a resentful father,
And an abusive partner,
Such pain is the only pain you could not shut out
Please don’t cry mother, for soon he will die,
Why mother? Is this not the life you wanted?
I can protect you now,
With him far under,
The earth you so elegantly tread,
Cry not for that man,
You have me instead,
What?
No mother shut out this pain,
Residing deep in my head,
Embedded in twisted memories
And demons unfed,
Why must I go away?
And who are these people that ‘choose’ me,
Like a stray dog in a cage,
Don’t look at me like that,
I’ll find you mother, in two to three
That is the sentence that labels me
So to finish my list,
From which I have gone astray,
I must depart, to a brighter place,
So greater than bright,
Now brighter than the your light which fades,
It nears me mother, the light to which I pray,
As my blood now cold trickles away,
This is not your doing mother,
It was a shard of a window pain,
Shed not a tear when you read this,
For I will see you one day,
Amongst clouds and angels,
And cleansing rays,
Which thrive within me,
And through my withered veins.

I love it...in a strange way. I can't exactly pin-point what I like about it though. Not to mention you're one of the few grammatically correct! Even I have failed at that, congradulations! I guess I really like the way you ended it the most. Its also nice how throughout the whole poem your rhyming never falters. To end this--words so often used on this site: Good Write

This poem overflows with bitterness and anger, in a way I could never write in words. Its a masterpiece of sadness and rejection, I applaud you, as it must have been so hard to put in words, but you did it so well. Thank you for adding it. Sue x |
