Sprinting for waiting bus
Legs accelerating faster than brain
Slaloming through packs of patient passengers
Long hair flailing in the wind.
Bus looms larger
Hope increases of boarding tonight
Engine turning, ticking tirelessly
Shirt untucked and flapping.
Approaching front, breathing hard
Doors slam shut arrogantly on arrival.
Hitting glass glowering gloomily
“Come on driver, let me on.”
Driver looks up, confused, from paper
My watch is fast I’m early
A line of people watch, wearily waiting
Returning sheepishly to back of queue
