Deception

The glint in his eyes as he battled loneliness
Added color to shade his bright promises
Deception wrapped its sinister cloak around
As he edged her into the adulterous role
Callous plots drawn on a lover’s devotion
Spoiling for tender love on a passing whim
Fate’s cruel dagger drawn on a gentle soul
Splayed in love and highballed to intrigue
Dregs of innocence in a poisoned world
Tossed to ruin on a selfish ruse
Standing the wings of a marriage intact
Hesitant to step back, unsure to step in
Secret beats of a perfect marriage
Waltzing to proud candid tunes
Furtive life of a wistful lover
Pulsing away on borrowed time

It can be hard not to be tempted by the suggestion of having a lover on the side.
Very nice poem. Perfectly dark and full of emotion. Really sets the mood intended I believe.
