The Final Curtain

Contributed by Willofree on Thursday, 11th May 2006 @ 05:24:02 PM in AEST
Topic: selfstruggles

There I stand behind the curtain
Stuck in my life to all that is uncertain
The drape is risen and reveals the unfamiliar
Yet mired am I in all that is familiar
Makes the past a hard act to follow

On center stage I stand
With a written script in my hand
However, there is no clarity of vision
Only uncertainty and doubt have arisen
Life is a stage, upon which we perform

I feel paralyzed, frozen in space and time
How genuine is this enactment of mine
I peer out into the expanse of the future unknown
The past is but a rehearsal where history is shown
But I feel immobilized in my current position

The curtain to raise, the last act to follow
I close my eyes and say a prayer that is hollow
There is so mucn fear and uncertainty out there
How genuine is our life we share
Hands are sweaty and my heartbeat is racing

Stagefright has me in it's grasp
And I continue to linger in the past
The past becomes present
And the future is lost to fear
So the curtain falls on the Act of life

Geesh... I suspect this piece will seem hauntingly familiar to many. There is an element of truth and an accompanying frustration here that screams to those that have the ability (born of experience) to hear it. This, I believe, is much bigger than what is on the page. It is, though, what made it to the page that tells me as much and that is precisely the sort of poetry that gets me everytime.

Well done, Will. You've carried the metaphor though this piece very well. And if I may be so bold to borrow your metaphor for a moment... I have to say I think that getting beyond the curtain is the most frightening part... once there, it usually is not nearly as scary as one had anticipated.

Wishing you well and hoping you don't mind my tossing out my two cents,
~Snemmy

Well done, Will...Great use of metaphor. I know the feeling only too well. This reminds me of my poem, "The Play Has Ended"
Thanks for sharing this..
Hugs

Very well done. Life does feel like a stage sometimes and we all have to put on a show. Beautifully put into words hun. I like it

This is so very relatable.
You have captured that feeling of uncertainty...oh so well!

A wonderfully expressed piece here Will...reading this, I felt like you really bared it all, and I appreciate that in a write. Your emotions are laced throughout, and there's a pain in the words you can almost touch. I can't wait to catch up on your work.
