This is the house
We all know what happened here.
Yellow paint chips off smoke-stained walls
Windows shattered, railing bent.
A break in the wall
Hair strands in plaster tells the tale.
Mold grows in beige carpet next to an empty beer can
One more story in a broken home.
The weathervane rusts on the caved and cracked roof.
Blood stains on the weathered mattress.
And the closet we hid in.
We stand in this broken home.
The times we cried and the pain that followed.
Today we leave this hollow home
And never come back to uncover the hurt
That left the heart still broken.
