There once was a lion cub,
Born of such noble birth,
Small and full of life,
Still young and naive was he,
The whole world was his backyard,
The sun was ablaze,
And he had much to do,
Chasing the lizards and catching the flies,
Happy and free he was thought to be,
The sun so clear and bright,
Yet as fate had its hand,
His very mother disappeared,
Left all alone the night started to come,
He was only a cub,
But still there was some younger than he,
So to save from starvation,
This cub found away,
Joined a different pack,
He learned to steal, to lie, and to cheat,
He learned to heal and he learned to kill,
And thus the night befall upon him.
At killing he was the best,
With sharp teeth and firm claws,
He killed to live, he killed for pleasure,
And the darkness soon consumed his heart,
Though he only fought for life at the start,
The night is so strong and to much for the young,
Now Leo the black-hearted came to be,
Blood was his shadow,
And terror was all he brought,
Death was his air,
And life was in his control,
He fought and was wounded,
He loved and lost,
He was shot, stabbed, beaten and left for dead,
But death was his friend and always alluded him,
And the night stayed long,
Until the point of death the young was brought,
To many times to even give it another thought,
But this time the dawn was now on its way,
Many had lived but more had died this night,
But this time the dawn arose,
Bring this new form on pain,
The pain of light in the heart of dark,
And as the son begun his triumph,
This now young lion saw the blood,
Saw the scars, saw the prints, saw the death,
And saw the Love,
With tears never fallen before,
Leo, Leo the black-hearted cried,
And Love took Leo into his arms,
Held him, and brushed away the tears,
Redeemed from the night,
The lord of the day roams,
Mighty and strong,
His eyes are ablaze,
He now protects the weak,
And feeds the starving,
Though many fear what they don’t understand,
Leo stands, watching over them, his own,
So if you ever are walking down by his world,
Through all of nature beauty and mystery,
Through the jungle of this life,
Stop for a moment and give a greeting to Leo,
The one who suffered,
More than the nightmares of millions,
Yet who now radiates the light of Love,
Listen to him roar,
Hear his story and know,
That the night may last for awhile,
But joy comes with the morning,
Take hope and be well,
For this Lion of life,
The champion of the night,
Ruler of the day,
Leader of the strong,
Is on the lookout,
And will not fail in his task.
