Dear Grandma

Contributed by Jeremy_B on Sunday, 7th May 2006 @ 08:06:17 PM in AEST
Topic: dedicatedpoems

Infant years still play heavy on my heart,
Times of your presenceStill remain
fresh to the senses; memories of wine
now suddenly dryRelentless to subdue
to your love light, sweet caress of good bye.
Whisper in my ear, to tell me I was loved
and to hold my head up highYet through
a subtle kiss of my head as I slept, you still
remain by my side, strong in my mind.

A proud woman, backed to sleep to gods grace
by a tender age of sixtyHer love already fallen
to the sands of time, alone in her retracted step
Yet never once did your love for family lessen,
heart remained truePreserved for all to see,
and believe me, we all adored you too
Even now, zero distorted view, I just wish
I could have been there, one last time, to hug,

I long for your embrace, nights are cold, silent
Whilst reminiscing the smile to faceScent of
the flowers beside your grave, remain true to my
scent, never to pass, ever to last, in memories of past.
Taken from the grasp of youth, by power unforgivable
to forgetGave life to 7 children of god,
one of which gracefully gave birth to a poet.

It was whispered that I was your favourite,
but I refuse to embrace As you loved all of your family
none of which in first or last placeIn the knowing
you are safe in gods grand, Im secure in love
In the knowing angel over my being,
watching down with eyes of gold, smiling above.

As the tears wept from sorrow of loss in heart,
passes into the mist of timeMy head rises with
a smile as I feel your love sill wrapping me in
warmthSweet in sound, your voice remains
to linger in my head, to comfort in the solemn nights.

Lost in emotion, lead me home to thought of happier
timesDancing in the street, playing in the park, passing
days and weeks, in our stride, never to know truly
How much your love meant to my up bringing.

Through poverty strived, arisen victorious through mist
Brought days of sun shine in your path, we laughed
As the world passed us by, patch our self on a patch of grass.

You kept our family together, the thread that bind our hearts close
Yet since youve left, the thread broke, no longer are words spoke.

In loving memory, of a woman that remains in our hearts for ever more.
