The Boy at the Window

Contributed by jerseysue on Sunday, 7th May 2006 @ 05:31:20 PM in AEST
Topic: mystical

As sleep was taking over me,
From the corner of my eye,
A movement I could see ,
In the window close by,

A little child was peering ,
Through the window at me,
It was quite a scary moment,
I 'm on the first floor you see,

The child had eyes of emerald green,
And hair the colour of corn,
And skin as white as porcelain,
And he looked so sad and forlorn,

He then beckoned me over,
And outstretched his arms,
His eyes they continued to gaze,
And I felt he meant no harm,

I stepped up to the window,
And noticed tears on his cheek,
And a moaning mournful sound,
From his mouth as he tried to speak,

When he had composed himself,.
He uttered please help me,
For I am a lost soul in limbo,
No home is there for me,

Will you help me in my quest,
To find my way back home,
To the people who love me,
As I am so very alone,

I aske d how I could do this,
He said please take my hand,
I will lead you to my grave,
Then you will understand,

He took me to a cherry wood,
And showed a spot to me,
Where he was murdered,
And buried hastily by a tree,

He asked that I dig him up,
And take him to hallowed soil,
For that is the way to save him,
From his limbo life of toil,

So I returned to my bed ,
And in the morning when I rose,
I told my local preacher,
Of the things that I had been told,

And yes some bones were found,
And these were then blessed,
Then they buried them in the churchyard,
Now in hallowed ground he rests,

I did see the boy once more,
He came to say goodbye,
He thanked me for my kindness,
And a tear came to my eye,

So when you go to sleep tonight,
And the window seems so bright,
And you see a blonde boy standing there,
Please wish him a fond goodnight.

A tight and tender story transcending fear to a childlike faith in goodness, giving, receiving a metaphoric kudo for kindness. I especially noted the little girl turned to "my local preacher" for assistance. Enjoyed this on oh, Sunday. Blessing always seem to come on Sunday. Very good write.
