In that spring of the year when the ground gives us blooms
and the scent of all good things lush fills earth as yore,
Prince John went forth with troops to cross the Themes where tombs
and long kept crypts rest near cross of rock that church bore.
Prince went to stop the men of north who then once more
in the land had come to kill and wreck small town York.
To still the land from axe and sword Prince John then swore,
thus with troops marched to town that men of ships did fork.
With fast prance of horse and mount, wood slings of strong torque,
Prince John and troops met horns of men who fought with axe,
that yelled in strange tongue with foul sounds and moved with quirk
to give Prince John mad rush when hands had dropped loot sacks.
Not soon did swords from Themes push horns back to long oars.
At depth of surge ships put out with full song that soars.
