Ghost of the mountaintop

Contributed by ladyfawn on Tuesday, 4th February 2003 @ 11:00:00 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

during howling winds and beating rain

within his grave he's saved his pain,

each lonely scene he shall restore

'till life may charm him no, no more,

for dear the tears been duly shed

his mourners pitied that he be dead,

he once explored this country wide

his 17th century rifle ever at his side,

and well above his grassy tomb

wherein' spring flowers surely bloom,

ever he lays there in sweetest sod

no more has feet upon ground to trod,

yet one eerily dark night quite alone

the ghost came visiting me at my home,

i wished to know his thoughts so much

even as feet to ground, his did not touch,

he murmured to me within' my mind

although long dead his heart was kind,

"they left me alone and i did die," he said

"then dug my grave and let me lie.."

"mark my grave upon the hill,

and keep my rifle if you will,"

yea, his suggestion was strongly made

though not through lips the words he said,

i longed to talk more to this old ghost

find out in life; whom he loved most,

his eyes of grey, an' broad in shoulders

flesh long gone underneath our boulders,

he; a man off cast by life although not in death

of pioneering spirit, he's wanting lasting rest,

back he wandered to his unknown grave of clay

i've not found him within' it, even yet to this day.

Wow, Vanessa very well written and scary. I love the mood you put in this poem. If I am rite the poem is about communicatiing with spirits? I dont agree with that, but the poem was just so great. Keep on writing!

Your friend,
Joel
