My Rummage Sale Hat*

I bought this hat at a rummage sale,
Some twenty years ago.
This hat is very special to me.
Believe me when I tell you so.
I purchased it from an elderly lady,
Who looked very good for her age.
She said this hat accompained her,
Everytime she went off stage.
Tales of how she traveled around the country,
Even around the world...
Her words exactly... No matter where I'd go,
My special hat went with me!
She told me this hat has special powers.
Times when you're feeling all alone.
If ever you're in need of company, just pick it up,
To your hair... pin it on.
Just when you're about finished adjusting it,
Now listen, I'm making it crystal clear...
All those lonely feelings will disappear.
Ten minutes later at your door...
A handsome man will appear.
My first thought was that this elderly woman,
Why she can't be for real.
What kind of hat whether old or new
Will make a handsome man appear?
Well ladies I'm here to tell you,
The story is quite true...
It's been twenty years now,
My black hat is still true blue.
As I travel the world quite often,
Whether by land, air or sea...
I make certain my Special Black Hat,
Is my number one packing priority.
Right after my busy day of meetings,
I go to my room...
A hot bubble bath, so I can relax,
To help get me in the mood.
After getting myself all dolled up,
The last thing is my hat,
Pinning in on so carefully, fitting it just right.
Just like clock work, ten minutes later,
There's a knock at my door...
Standing there is this Handsome Gentleman,
Ladies...need I say more?

It is a very well knitted poem expressing a longing lone hearts fantasy venture. My poet friend has done a neat job on this poem.
