This shattered house
stands alone
this shattered house
so dark and cold
with drafts going in and out
circling bitterness around
this shattered house
with scattered pieces
a mess of broken memories
of happier and warmer days
only now remembered and seen
in broken corners underneath
broken glass and broken walls
broken ground and broken windows
this house so shattered
filled with disaster
barely standing still
the draft flows in still...
singing the memories
of the past once existing
and whistling a painful whisper
something happened there
destroying the warmth
the foundation and walls
killing the laughter
and happiness once there
this cold, cold house,
the remaining bit
is grey and cement
lost of its color
and the protection of the outside air
as it stands open
in a barren land
only the house can say what happened
dreadful it must have been-
yet this house still exists
what may be the meaning of this?

To me the meaning is the message, strongly and persuasively presented, to move on ... and don't look back. Light at the end of a tunnel. Can't wait fer part 2 to see how much I jump to conclusions! Each line grips and lures the reader to the question.

"Like a city whose walls are fallen is the man with out self control" If the exterior things wreck our life then why not just live life in a hollow tree? This is a great poem about how past hurts and regrets affect us. |

I thought that was a beautiful and worthwhile read..when I read this,I thought of all the now empty homes in New Orleans, I can imagine this is how I would feel, glancing around a desolate space, that once held so much love and warmth.. |

A broken hearted body... soul coming in and out of it, remembering where it once resided, wants to stay ... has many fond memories of a beautiful time there...
Your poem can mean many things.. each person who reads it will have their own meaning.
Wonderful write.. enjoyed it.. that shattered house is in dire need of repairs.. with prayer, it can be mended.

I really loved this poem. I would hate to live in such a place. Luckily I don't and this poem reminds me on how good I really have it. I do love this poem, it's so deep and can have many meanings, so I won't try to guess at my own. Again, this was a very beautiful poem. Write more soon. |
