Afrika in my, om my, saam my,
is my fondasie, my oorsprong,
my rede hoekom.
Afrika van verskeie nasies,
en kleurvolle tonge.
saam in n land wyd en uitgesprei,
geheg onder vleklose hemel blou.
Afrika, donker Afrika,
haar verlede, vuil bebloed
deur haar kinders se lyding,
generasies van tragiese gebeurtenisse
kwel haar drome.
Maar die nag duur net so lank.
Afrika, my Afrika,

If there's a will there is a way. |

Afrikaans is an intriguing language. Yet, it would help if you gave an English translation after it, for it's all Greek to some of us.
Keep it up, though. I like to see poems that embrace a different heritage.

The hardest thig for me to do is to translate something I wrote into another language, cuz most of the time, some of it gets lost in translation.
Afrikaans, for those who speak it, is a very interesting language, almost poetic in some cases, very metaphorical, so to try to translate something into a nother language sometimes almost feels like a sin.
I am aware that the greater majority of the people here prefer to read english poems, and for that reason I do try to translate any Afrikaans poem I submit to english. It might take a while to get it right, but it is coming |
