Paper butterflies, in everything I see,
Memories of you, sent straight from heaven above, to little old me.
A sad young girl,
all alone in a room,
some paper, some scissors,
Now, has something to do.
Paper butterflies covered, the walls and the cieling,
to keep her company on the cold days, when no one came to visit.
She spent alot of time in bed, But even more time kneeling.
She pleaded with God,
as to what was her Purpose,
Would she live to see,
the butterflies, floating lightly in the spring breeze?
OR would she spend her last moments,
down here, on her knees.
Doctors make false promises, as we all do,
Hoping to fulfill them,
they all tell her that Soon..she'll be as good as new.
What Am I here for?
What did I do?
God, why can't you make me better?
I have Faith in you.
Purples, blues, reds and greens,
all these colors, here to be seen.
The Purple is for the passion for life, that pulsed through her veins,
The Blue is for the eyes, that poured each night, like Rain,
The Reds are for the Fire, that Burns inside her soul,
And when her time was growing near,
and she Knew that they had lied,
She'd not be getting out of here,
Just Another kid who Died!
SHe began to make these butterflies,
so she wouldn't go alone,
they could make the journey with her,
to this place, that they call home.
ANd on the day she left this place,
all those were there to see,
the paper butterflies wings, once Still,
Now, blowing in the Breeze.

Welcomes to YPDC, Daisy. Sorry I'm a tad late in making it to your page to say hello.
I like this piece. The imagery that comes with "Paper butterflies covered, the walls and the cieling" is fantastic. The conclusion of this piece is its strongest part, I think. The earlier line "so she wouldn't go alone" makes those last few lines rather touching. Nice write.

wow! my eyes are so teary now!! that is such a wonderful poem! i'm so sorry to hear about serra's departing. It's beautiful what you did with the butterflies at the end. it's kinda like a sign saying she's not alone and she's happy. way to go for your first poem!

Thanks so much for all of your kind comments. The part some of you liked at the end, actually happened. The surgical tape that held the butterflies on the ceiling had simply released..and when I looked up after she had passed...I thought to myself, "Oh Look....there she goes." I HAVE SINCE..been a collector of butterflies..as cheesy as it may sound..
