On Romance

Contributed by scott on Monday, 24th April 2006 @ 04:07:24 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

The stage of uncertainty
Methinks is the worst
Will moves be made?
If so, by whom first?

Will it be an impassioned kiss,
As in Hollywood lore?
Two figures melting,
Upon river-shore?

Or shall it be stumbling,
an imperfect affair?
Precluded by sighing
And a few awkward stares?

Will it never begin?
Shall love a-leave take?
Will the first and the last
End with a handshake?

And if you fall for her
But she not for you
Then you’ll wonder why anyone
E’er thought this quote true:

“Love unrequited
Is the highest form.”
As you walk sorrow’s streets
Alone and forlorn.

But dwell not on these thoughts,
But on the wisdom of old
For men wiser than I, say
Fortune favors the bold.

Wooing’s but a test
One that you must pass
So hold her and kiss her
And learn from the past.
