My Alternate Personality

Contributed by NothingMoreNothingLess on Saturday, 22nd April 2006 @ 10:45:08 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

My blood froze into red icicles
Falling off my hands...
The wound numbed by the biting wind
But the sting remains under the skin
The knife hangs frozen in the air
Time stands still for a moment or two
Long enough for me to see...
What I've done, the pain I've caused
I close my eyes, not wanting to see
The meaning of the story...
That's playing out before my eyes
The moral is I've killed myself...

My soul lies dying as she masquerades
This queen of deception, fooling everyone but me
Her smile lights up the room with the fire that filled my soul
Her chest rises and falls with the breath of my body
She laughs as I cry, knowing I've tried
To make people see that she isn't me...

They turn away, ashamed to see
The person that I used to be...
I need their help but they don't care
I've pushed them away once too many times
I walked away in their time of need...

So here's the thing, I'd never succeed
In ending my life, in doing the deed
But that doesn't mean I haven't hurt myself
Not with knives, but by suppressing myself
I've shut myself down, let her play...
Play the role that I was meant to play
Now I'm stuck, losing the will
To fight back and take control
So she's going to win, she's now me
My alternate personality...

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
