To know
what has it cost us?
To feel
do you want to forget?
The hurt
that wrests at your heart space
until you can not sleep at night
I want the times back
when i could not remember
the fire's much too hot to hold
I want the times back
before the times of temptation
I keep seeing those times unfold
( I want my innocence )
To want
more than when you're hungry!
To fight
and never want to quit!
Purity
like unblemished water
that quenches your thirst
and makes you want to forget!
That the world is full of temptation to overcome
and only the strong will survive
If you slip up one time it will leave scars on you
that decrease your chance to stay alive
( Give me my innocence )
Mistakes
that show we are learning lessons
Scarred hands
from getting too close to the fire.
Regrets
I never seemed to learn from
except from going through hard times
We live in a world and our time here is fleeting
We either learn to give in or to hold out
It might mean that you will have to fight the harder
to keep from drowning in dim plights
I want to live my life so i can be thankful
For the lessons that I did not have to learn
From the scars that i''ve already been through
Which prove I am strong and show i am mature
Sometimes its not the things you do which prove your wisdom
It is the things you avoid that make you strong
It is the things that are hidden and forgotten
that give you reason to freely sing your song
I'll take
my innocence
I'll leave
my regret
I'll gain
back my happiness
from the lessons I learned
( repeat last stanza to fade )

A very meaningful song to which I seem to be able to relate....at least into my own life. I think you sing a song for many of us. I really like it and I know it would certainly be nice to "hear" you do it sometime. Thank you.

Yes Archie Tomptheuis is right - this song applies to many of us.
Let us never forget that it through the scars that we learn and grow.
The "Grown-up" still keep growing and maturing, not solely the young ones when it is biologically manifest.
The growth of the Adults is not manifest, but is there just the same.
Great poem!

Hey Archie,
It has been a while, I hope everything is well... And I do have some words for you.
This poem of yours reminds me of something the Lord said to me once... He said, "Dont be afraid to grow up. And dont be afraid to stay innocent."
It is only to the pure that all things are pure. Righteousness can ignore unrighteousness because it is greater. Hold to the truth in all circumstances, learn to rest in his love. There is nothing that cleanses like the blood of Jesus Christ. In the end, it really is the only thing that wins in the struggle against sin. We fight with the victory already accomplished. Meditate on these words.
And of course, "all things are laid bare and open before him to whom we must all give account." This is both convicting, and comforting to know. He sees it all, yet he still loves us. He loves us so much, that he will not push us to repent against our will, even though he knows it is for our good. I can testify, it is the only way to truly live. All else is an illusion. And that is true gentleness, not to pressure, except when we are ready... Even so, those who will not turn must still face conviction and eventually, sadly, his wrath. I know that this greives him but it must be so. For the sake of truth and goodness all sin and unrighteousness must perish in the flames... either willfully as we die to ourselves and live for Christ's love's sake, or in the pain of death, paying our debt, when he makes all things new again. It all comes back to the Word...
"If we say we have no sin, we decive our selves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just, and will forgive us our sins and cleans us from all unrighteousness."
And those temptations can ALL be overcome, by the grace of God. There is no sin too great to keep you from turning, be it pride or fear or lust or greed or whatever. They bind us, but as you reminded me yourself, Archie, if we hold to his teaching we are truly his disciples. And then we will know the truth, and the truth will set us free.
I know that it can be really hard. But, if you allow your desire for holiness and for God and his love consume you, those desires will overcome the desires to sin. The only way to replace any and all addictions is to replace them with an addiction for something else, and the only thing that wont hurt you back eventually is love. And God is love. Jesus Christ is love. He is the man of love, and he loves you. His love can make you innocent again, his purity is beyond compare. His Word is like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times. His Holy Spirit is as potent as a double edged sword, cutting away darkness and sin.
So, dear brother, sorry about the rant, but I felt you could use some encouragement. I hope it is good for you and that the Lord will strengthen your frame. Peace be with you. Even as he has commanded, remain in him. May his grace be with your spirit.
