Born in poverty
hard work and long days
violence and abuse
closed to the eye
choices of separation
elusive family ties
confusion and heartbreak
a child learns to cry
Years of despair
no friend to be found
shuffled from place to place
searching for home
used for labor and financial gain
rights brutally violated
bending to authority
a girl learns distrust
Marriage and children
happiness brings joy
giving and receiving
the evidence of love
teaching and helping
the peacemaker speaks
the loss of a husband
a woman learns pain
Lonely and devastated
a heart ripped apart
sinking into darkness
suicidal thoughts
concern for others
lifted from the pit
dreams come into view
a widow learns hope

If cowboys can be serious, you got syntax down to an art of connecting thought lines overflowing with provocatingly painted clear picture that connects to the second from the back row of the schoolroom of life. In other words, satisfying.
Cause dreams comes into view be granted. It's all part of miracle. |

This is a great poem. It reminds me of my youth as a boy growing up in the city. The closest to this poem from my own life is one called "Here we go again" and "City lullaby" Thanks for sharing your life with us. |

I can so identfy with this..
I remember as a kid the outside toilet and stepping on slugs and snails on the way and sleeping on a P***** stained mattress.
But poverty has positivity....
To the receptive it gives wisdom and paves the way for a better future.
