In my old town, semper fi was the saying,
Make me proud my mother said
as I left for my training,
My father cries,as the bus pulls away
Dont worry i said, ill be a hero some day
Soon my drills instructor teaches me, who is the boss
As srgnt screams at me "are you dumb or just lost?"
I ponder the question, but out my mouth I scream
"This recruit was born, to be a united states marine!"
and so it would pass, I recieved my dress blues
With knowlege of violence, i might have to use
But with pride over whelming, and my families good cheer
pride is the only thing that will ever cause my tears.

You are right it is not killing that makes us brave it is standing in the shadow of honesty or in the path of honour. That is atleast what i see in your poem. Good write. |
