LIFE AS A SINGLE MOTHER

Contributed by Adelle on Saturday, 15th April 2006 @ 10:05:50 PM in AEST
Topic: FamilyPoems

driving down the road
like a river my tears flow
on my way to work
another day i must live for
the little ones in my life
must go to work and say good bye
leave them in others hands
and let them hold them
nuture their hearts
fill them with compassion and care
bandage their wounds
with a kiss and a bandaid too
put thier shoes on
and out side, with them run
laugh and giggle
create imaginations large and little
while i leave for work
and cry in sheets of tears-
but too, for me they cry
why do you have to leave mommy, why?
tugging and pulling
kicking and screaming
i blow a kiss and leave
for at work, i must be
their eyes saddened
full of their mothers love
sinks deep down in my heart
so deep i feel it ripping me apart
i must go to the bathroom
pull myself together to
make some money
greet people smiling
make their lives, even in the moment happy
get out of myself a little and see
the need for me
out in the field of service and working
then back home again
my kids hold me tight to them
then finally, i get to nourish them
kiss thier broken hearts
bandage their open hurts
hold them tight
kiss their no longer saddened eyes
take them on a fun adventure
little or small, fun and laughter we share
then to their beds they retire
and await to a day of another
just the same as this day
to repeat their joys and pains-
the world as a single mother
love pain laughter, hard working labor
this love doesnt get surpassed
the kind where love long lasts
past the stories and the swings
it goes beyond to the world of working
to provide the best i can for my babies
yet a love never taken for granted
always a love for them of passion
to make up for the absence
to give them the love and life worth lived
to teach them survival
and why we take the harder road
to be ever so strong standing in this world-

As a single working father I can very well relate your poem Verse by Verse to my daily life.
The greatest bliss of all that dry the warm tear, is those innocent smile on my kid’s face
For which I shall sacrifice my thousand lives, again and again.
A very good work on a very emotional poem.
FRANCO
