The shape of words in Autumn is different from other seasons;
Remarks are brittle and dry, turning to dust on the tongue
Deeply colourful in their death throes,
The skeletons of beautiful things picked clean by crows.
A profusion of all things said and scribed,
The verses of Spring in full flower
Over-flow the beds of mouths and bowers of diction,
But are irresistible in their composition.
Summer’s statements are bold and bright,
Shouting, posturing, declaring their sovereignty
Volatile adjectives incite consonants to riot,
To tussle with verbs for space and place on the palate.
To Winter, obliterating the landscape of dialogue
With whitewashed canopies of packed expression
No two words the same, intricate, delicate,
The last utterance on the final page of Thought’s text, inviolate.

What a remarkable and artistic take on the division of time. To describe
words as if they had changing seasons (and why not?) is an intensely brilliant
concept. Your writes are all so independently unique and yet, they all share in
common a wonderful articulation of thought, sometimes so powerful they are
searing!!
Great work here, Spike, as always.

Oh, I like this - in both concept and expression - but, mostly perhaps, in its ability to move one to thoughts of deeper meaning. I found myself reading this through more than once... reading it again after shutting off noise making things... reading it a final time, aloud, before commenting here. And I found myself pondering it... falling into the flow, taking note of its message, and considering in which season my words seem to belong and/or from which they seem to come of late (having nothing, of course, to do with the calendar).
Breezy's right... each of your pieces is unique in its own way. This piece, somehow, is unique in its parts, in its whole and in the context of your body of work. Truly enjoyable, Spike... engaging, interesting and well presented!

incredible write, each season as life, moving through the season and life making decissions as well as our journey from infant to adult to elderly. Loved this

I enjoyed this because it was good poetry. Although I may not be able to write how I want to, I appreciate it immensely when other people do. Congratulations! |

Bold, crisp 'n' chillin'. Just like a mountain autumn. I like to chew, taste 'n' savor (Aussie = savour) your every word. Tasty meal of SUPERB served up eloquently.

As Oscar Wilde said, “Mere colour, unspoiled by meaning, and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways.”
Uniquely brilliant~!

I totally enjoyed reading this poem - your words making me think about each season and how each season has a tone and text of its own. Also turning the poem inside out and thinking how words create seasons. Well done
