Why do you hate me
Is it because of the colour of my skin
Has no one told you beauty lies within
You nothing about me
But still the colour of my skin is all you see
Why do you resent me because of the things I choose to believe in
You and me
We're not really that different
Hopefully one day someone or something will make you see
That there's no reason in the world to continue hating me
We're all pretty much the same
And ignorence isn't a game
If you treat someone like dirt
The only thing you've done is hurt

This is such a great poem, I too don't understand why things such as racism exist yet I don't let words of ignorance hurt me, never will I let someone else's ignorance hurt my feelings because it's like being insulted by a child, they don't know any better but they refuse to also. But if someone were to treat me differently because of the color of my skin they would be surprised of how intellectually I respond. Keep your head up!!

Dear Carmen, This is a valuable message and one that goes both ways. If you are discriminated against as a minority, please don't think that because I'm white, that I am one of those that thinks so narrowly. If we had a chance to know one another, we could see what is within our hearts. Bizzy |
